Skotomorphogenesis: The Dark Side of Light Signalling
نویسندگان
چکیده
The ability to switch from skotomorphogenic to photomorphogenic development is essential for seedling survival. Central to this mechanism are the phytochrome interacting factors that are important for maintaining the skotomorphogenic state and regulating the switch to photomorphogenesis.

Identification and Functional Characterization of Arabidopsis icl Mutant Under Trehalose Feeding in Light and Dark Conditions
Trehalose is a non-reducing sugar that plays an important role in plant growth and development. To study the role of trehalose on lipid metabolism and gluconeogenesis, Arabidopsis thaliana wild type (WT) and TreF (a line expressing trehalase) were grown on ½ MS medium with or without 100 mM sucrose and or trehalose in light or continuous darkness. In dark, trehalose leads skotomorphoge...
متن کاملRegulation of Chlorophyll Biosynthesis in Angiosperms.
Light controls plant growth and development in a pleiotropic manner. For example, light dictates a pattern of gene expression that leads to photomorphogenesis (Kendrick and Kronenberg, 1994). In the absence of light, an alternative developmental process, skotomorphogenesis, takes place. Photomorphogenesis and skotomorphogenesis are controlled by severa1 different photoreceptors, such as Pr and ...
متن کاملLight-lnactivable Repressor of Photomorphogenesis
Arabidopsis seedlings are genetically endowed with the capability to follow two distinct developmental programs: photomorphogenesis in the light and skotomorphogenesis in darkness. The regulatory protein CONSTITUTIVE PHOTOMORPHOGENlCl (COP1) has been postulated to act as a repressor of photomorphogenesis in the dark because lossof-function mutations of COPl result in dark-grown seedlings phenoc...
متن کاملArabidopsis COP8, COP10, and COP11 genes are involved in repression of photomorphogenic development in darkness.
Wild-type Arabidopsis seedlings are capable of following two developmental programs: photomorphogenesis in the light and skotomorphogenesis in darkness. Screening of Arabidopsis mutants for constitutive photomorphogenic development in darkness resulted in the identification of three new loci designated COP8, COP10, and COP11. Detailed examination of the temporal morphological and cellular diffe...
متن کاملEffect of Blue Light on Endogenous Isopentenyladenine and Endoreduplication during Photomorphogenesis and De-Etiolation of Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) Seedlings
Light is one of the most important factor influencing plant growth and development all through their life cycle. One of the well-known light-regulated processes is de-etiolation, i.e. the switch from skotomorphogenesis to photomorphogenesis. The hormones cytokinins (CKs) play an important role during the establishment of photomorphogenesis as exogenous CKs induced photomorphogenesis of dark-gro...
